Sport

Sport and physical activity play an important role in Holy Trinity NS. Physical Education classes take place twice a week from Junior Infants to Sixth. The Physical Education curriculum provides a balanced range of activities for children through the six strands: Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Games, Outdoor and adventure activities and Aquatics. Over the course of the school year pupils from 1st to 4th Class participate in swimming lessons in a local pool. Our annual Sports Day takes place in mid-June for all classes. The school is represented in various extra-curricular competitions throughout the year, both in team and individual events.

On the Gaelic field we compete in boy's and girl's senior football as well as entering mixed 3rd class ground hurling teams into the local Andy Gibbon's tournament in Naomh Olaf's GAA club. Our 5th and 6th class pupils also compete on the basketball field, playing both friendly and competitive games. In athletics the school is well represented each year at Santry Sports, where pupils from u10 onwards compete in sprints, relays, long distance races, the shot put and the long jump.

This year our Fifth and Sixth classes participated in the Daily Mile. The Daily Mile is an activity that enables the pupils to run or jog, at their own pace, with their classmates, making them fitter, healthier, and more able to concentrate in the classroom.  Fifth and Sixth classes took part in the The Daily Mile Schools Event, in Marlay Park on Thursday 9th May. We  are fortunate to have outside coaches come into the school to teach skills of various sports to the children. Naomh Olaf's GAA club are a regular fixture, catering for some of the classes in the junior end of the school. Rugby and hockey coaches have worked with some of our older classes over the course of the year too. Our 1st classes also enjoy the services of "Mini-Movers" from Dun Laoighre-Rathdown Sports Partnership. They provide a broad range of enjoyable physical activities to develop a positive attitude in the children towards physical habits and activity.
